Meet Lakita – our Queenstown Kiwi intern

Who am I?

I am from a small town called Ranfurly, New Zealand. Normally I just say I am from Queenstown because Ranfurly barely makes the map. I didn’t know what I wanted to do when I left school but I knew I had a passion for outdoor adventures which lead me to move to New Zealand’s Adventure capital to study Adventure Tourism Management.

I have currently been studying Adventure Tourism Management in Queenstown for the last 6 months. As part of the degree, we are required to complete a 6-9 month internship anywhere in the world with an adventure tourism company. It is a chance to apply my knowledge and gain some experience working in the adventure tourism industry. Luckily for Inspiration Outdoors 🙂 I chose to come to Western Australia where I am now the company’s very first intern. My motivation to come to Western Australia, was from my desire to experience something new and different from New Zealand.

I’m not just talking about the different ways of which “fish and chips” is pronounced. Australia and New Zealand definitely have cultural differences and the landscapes couldn’t be more different.

During my short time with Inspiration Outdoors, I have been fortunate enough to go on the Pemberton to Northcliffe guided walking tour. This experience was very exciting as I got the opportunity to see and learn more about Australia’s wonderful surroundings. I was also able to gain a better understanding of how tours operate including the level of hard work and effort that goes into guiding a group of people. The trip exceeded my expectations in many ways from the fantastic group of people, the beautiful scenery and the amazing food! I can’t wait for another tour!

I am very grateful for the opportunity to be working with Inspiration Outdoors as they are a great team. They are all very passionate about what they do with the attitude to make every tour special and memorable.

I wouldn’t be working for inspiration outdoors if I didn’t finish on an inspiring note. I’ve learnt that not everything will be easy. My experience of moving away from home to a completely different country wasn’t easy but now, I’m confident to say that I can do it. It’s those difficult decisions that lead us to where we are today and the greatest adventure is what lies ahead – so take a hike into the unknown and see where it takes you because like most things, the most difficult roads lead us to the most beautiful destinations.

That’s me in the middle!
